Marie qualified as a Certified General Accountant in 1985 and as a Chartered Accountant in 1989. She has 25 years of experience in public and private accounting, business ownership, and financial controllership. Marie also holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management from Royal Roads University, where she graduated with distinction in 2011.

Marie’s public accounting experience includes ten years at Touche Ross, predecessor of Deloitte Touche, Chartered Accountants. Marie also worked for three years at a small Victoria Chartered Accounting firm as a manager, and for four years as a contract accountant for a number of Chartered Accounting firms around Victoria. Her management, controllership, and business ownership experience includes ten years with a successful family-owned painting company, and with a retail pharmacy franchise group on Southern Vancouver Island.

Marie understands the everyday challenges and rewards of fiscal self-management. She knows from firsthand experience about the importance of accurate and timely financial reporting in the operation of a successful business. Marie also possesses an extensive skill set relating to the particular aspects and concerns of Indigenous fiscal management. She spent four years as financial controller in a First Nations band office and, since 2015, has worked in-house serving First Nations financial rehabilitation and operational needs, while maintaining her own private practice.
